With so many different types of espresso cups available these days, figuring out which is best can be difficult!

When it comes to coffee, nothing says “I’m ready to take on the day” like a nice, hot espresso.

Today I’m sharing my personal favorites. My hope is that you too will give them a try and enjoy the perfect brew every time!

Without any further ado, let’s dive right in.

Types of Espresso Cups

Unlike with coffee cups, there are two distinct types of espresso cups to be found.

The first type is metal espresso cups which use a material that is usually stainless steel or aluminum.

They tend to be the cheapest of the three choices, but the downside is that they can crack in your hand when not handled carefully.

Don’t worry, these aren’t necessarily breakable in a leaky pot of boiling water, but you probably don’t want to use them in an unattended way!

The second type of espresso cup is ceramic cup.

These are usually made with stoneware materials instead of glass or metals.

Ceramic is normally smooth and shiny on all sides so it is very unlikely for something to get trapped between its walls.

Now, there are also other types of espresso cups (like cups that are made of glass), but these two are the most common.

  • Number of Items: 2

Another great choice would be the Bodum Pavina Espresso Cups.

These cups look and feel nice and very cool, and they are made of high-quality glass.

Therefore they are super heat-resistant.

A lot of coffee drinkers who enjoy a good espresso have been buying these cups instead of the usual bulky plastic cups that just do not last long.

The vent in these glasses is permeable to air but not water, so the product won’t leak between the two layers nor it will sweat after pouring your hot espresso.

Which Espresso Cups To Choose Then?

Let me answer this question by what not to choose instead LOL

Please avoid espresso cups that are made of plastic that is not heat-resistant or that can break if you spill hot coffee.

Do not buy the strong silicone cups, strong silicone cups do not insulate very well and about 80% of them don’t even come with a handle.

So they are definitely bad cup to get for serving other people their espresso or hot chocolate.

Metallic mugs and styrofoam cups are also not the best choices for serving coffee, because they are not durable and once they get hot they might start sweating.

If you need to buy high-quality cups with a very good insulating capacity, with a thick layer of glass, then I recommend you to choose the above-named espresso cups.

What Materials Are Best For Espresso Cups?

As I mentioned in the introduction, stainless steel is by far the best material for espresso cups.

The reason for this is that it will be the last material to lose its shape and will not dent or corrode when heated.

Stainless steel even looks like ceramic, but has much better temperature tolerance!

One downside is that stainless steel can easily rust if it’s a type of steel with high chromium content.

However, if it is properly cared for, like by using stainless steel cleaner, these espresso cups will last for a very long time.

To avoid worries about stains and damage to your cup, I suggest you wipe down the inside and exterior of your cup with a damp cloth after each use.

The material that is most similar to stainless steel is aluminum.

Although it will rust over time, this problem can easily be avoided by using a powder metal polishing spray which can be purchased at any store.

This can also help prevent stains from appearing on the surface of the cup as well as increase the lifespan of your aluminum coffee cups by preventing rusting over time due to water.

Ceramic cups are a bit more fragile, but they also have their own perks.

Ceramic cups are very durable but can be a bit breakable if they aren’t handled correctly.

There is a chance that the handle could come off, so you should take precautions over this matter.

Otherwise, ceramic coffee cups can last for a very long time and allow you to enjoy your drink without having to worry about stains or any other imperfections.

The biggest pain with ceramic cups is cleaning them.

Furthermore, they are not recommended for dishwashers, due to the fact that heat can cause the surface of the cup to change color.

So be careful on this one!

How To Choose The Best Espresso Cups

Insulation Capacity

The most important aspect of any insulated product is the insulation capacity.

It can be measured by “R-value” and this number indicates the thickness of the glass.

The higher it is, than more will be your coffee hot when you serve it to your friends or family members who may be sitting by you.

If there is no R-value in a cup, then you can’t determine if that cup will serve its purpose well enough in serving coffee, tea and other beverages in a short period of time.

Design

One of the most important aspects in a product is the look; and if you know about it, you will never make a wrong choice.

I can tell you that all those cups on this top review list are beautiful to look at and they make your kitchen more beautiful as well as functional as well 🙂

Material

It is important to find a cup that is heat resistant.

Preferably, glass, because it is the only material that can insulate hot coffee or tea for a long time and can resist very high temperatures.

In fact, you will be amazed by the fact that the cups on our top review list are designed from glass and they can sustain even very high temperatures without breaking!

Handle

It is important to have a good handle.

The last thing you want is to burn your hand in case you accidentally drop your cup onto the floor in front of your friends.

I personally like the handles on the above-mentioned cups because they are easy to grip and quickly get the cups off the table or countertop when you need them.

Of course, there are also other designs, but I think that these are ideal for most people.

Customization

Today, there are many manufacturers who are offering some cool customization options.

For example, some of the cups on our top review list come in different colors and you can simply choose the one that goes with your kitchen decoration best!

Other cups have beautiful design patterns that will make your espresso cup more beautiful to look at.

Of course, this is not a must-have aspect, but it surely will influence your choice in one way or another.

Price

The price is the last aspect you should consider here.

Since we did not come up with our list based on affordability, we did not take this aspect into consideration.

If you feel that the cups on this review go for a high price, then maybe it is better to get one of the cheaper ones and save some money for other purchases.

Final Thoughts On Espresso Cups

Espresso cups are among the best products that you can buy to jazz up your coffee lifestyle.

And making coffee for you and others is your passion, then it is important that you get one of the above-named cups (or more than one 😉 ) because these serve their purpose very well.

They make your espresso look beautiful and chic for any occasion.
